Training
Our training approach is geared towards being fun for you and your dog. Our biggest goal is to teach you how to communicate more effectively with your dog, which is one of the many reasons we use positive reinforcement. We offer both Group Classes and Private Lessons, based on what you feel is the best learning environment for your dog. If you are not certain what is best for your dog, one of our trainers would be happy to discuss your options and help you determine which is best for you. See Event Calendar for class schedule.
All training participants are encouraged to please bring your dog on a flat collar (no chokers or prong collars are permitted in our facility unless instructor approved), a standard 6-foot leash or shorter (no retractable leashes) and some of your dog's favorite tasty treats.
About Our Trainers
Nancy Liebhauser, CPDT-KA
Nancy Liebhauser is the founder of
Mica Dog Training and its lead trainer. Nancy is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, a Canine Good Citizen evaluator and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). Nancy is also an Operation Socialization Certified Trainer. In addition to certifications, Nancy brings a wealth of hands-on experience to Mica Dog Training. She has 4+ years of experience in teaching obedience and agility classes, including puppy behavior/socialization. Nancy is continuously training her own pack of dogs, which includes several rescue dogs from challenging backgrounds. She also frequently attends seminars and stays up-to-date on the latest dog training and behavior research. Nancy has seen how positive reinforcement based training has helped her own dogs and wants to help others achieve their goals as well.
Puppy Class
Puppy Basics (Puppies 1 year and younger) Thursdays ~ 7:15pm-8:10pm
Our rolling enrollment puppy class allows you to enroll at anytime and get your puppy off to a great start, right away. This class includes a private in-home training session prior to the group class. This in-home session will include information on house training, crate training, socialization and the foundation for training your dog. The remaining 6 group classes will focus on real life situations so your puppy can be well-behaved at the groomer, on walks, at the veterinarian and more!
*Rolling enrollment includes one private in-home training session and 6 weeks of group class

Tricks & Games 101 Thursdays ~ 8:15pm – 9:10pm
Does your dog know the basics of sit, down, stay and come and you are looking for something fun to do together? Our Tricks and Games class utilizes tricks and games to improve your dog's responses. We provide competitive and non-competitive activities such as nose games, musical downs and relay races. We also include the foundation for teaching your dog a variety of tricks, including back up, roll over, paw, sit pretty and take a bow.

Beginner Class
This class is for dogs who are 6 months or older that need work on the basics or if you have recently adopted a dog. The focus of this class will be to teach and/or improve upon basic skills such as sit, down, stay, come recalls, loose leash walking, leave it and drop it.
Private Lessons
Our one-on-one training sessions are offered at your home at a time that is convenient to your schedule. We know that not all dogs are the same, so our private lessons are customized to fit your dogs learning level and personality as well as to address any specific behaviors that you and your dog want to cover. The topics can range from housetraining and chewing, leash manners and proper greetings to behaviors that you find to be problematic for you and your dog.
